CERTIFICATE IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Course 4: Participation and Development Online

It is widely documented that the participation of local community members in all aspects of development project planning and implementation is the key ingredient to successful, sustainable initiatives. It is important to adopt participatory involvement as a primary instrument in any development toolkit. There are many common impediments, however, that can hinder participation. In the article “Community Participation in Development: Nine Plagues and Twelve Commandments,” authors Lucius Botes and Dingie van Rensburg explore these impediments, as well as suggestions for their elimination. This course will offer you a better understanding of why participation is important, as well as the interpretive skills needed to assess the value of approaches executed by well-intending agencies.

This course is freely and publicly available. It is also part of the Certificate in Community Development. Enroll in the Community Development Certificate Program Through Global Health University
